A Dubuque downtown grand hotel stay, reserved for three weeknights
from $2703 weeknights, room for twofrom $135 per personA Dubuque downtown grand hotel stay puts two people a few blocks from the Mississippi for three weeknights, in an early 1900s hotel with its own front desk. Dubuque counted 59,667 residents in the 2020 census, a little more than Florissant's 52,533, which places it seventh among our nine stays. We reserve the room, you pay the hotel directly, and the written quote costs nothing.
Dubuque's bluffs, brick hillsides and river views
Dubuque is Iowa's oldest city, set where high limestone bluffs drop to the Mississippi River. Streets climb from the riverfront into hillside neighborhoods of 19th-century brick, and a short funicular climbs the bluff from downtown. The view from the top takes in the rooftops and the river together.
North of downtown, Eagle Point Park sits on the bluff with views down to a lock and dam, where river traffic steps between water levels. To the south, a wooded river park reaches up the bluff, with a stone tower standing at the top. Either one makes an easy morning or late afternoon from a downtown room.

An early 1900s grand hotel near Dubuque's riverfront
The hotel dates from the early 20th century and stands on a downtown corner a few blocks from the river, a tall brick building under a heavy cornice. With 133 rooms it is the largest of the nine places we reserve, and it presents itself as an independent hotel. Check-in is at 3:00 PM and checkout at noon, both handled at the front desk.
We send the reservation to that front desk in your names. You settle the bill with the hotel at the end of the visit, and after checkout the hotel pays the office a commission. The hotel lists parking at no charge. Breakfast is sold separately, so mornings are yours to plan downtown.
Three Dubuque weeknights, priced and rounded
from $270
a room shared by two over 3 weeknights, so from $135 per person
The nightly figure comes from a travel search page we checked on November 4, 2026. For a Wednesday night in mid-November, two guests in one room, the entry deluxe room at this hotel showed $90 a night. We multiplied that by three nights and rounded up to the next ten dollars, which lands exactly on $270 for two. Halved and rounded up to the next five dollars, that is $135 per person. Search pages like that one often fold an estimate of taxes into the nightly number, so this figure leans high; your quote separates the room rate from the taxes the desk will charge.
Fridays and Saturdays run higher here, and so do summer nights, with July the dearest month on the same page. At checkout the desk adds Iowa's 5% state hotel-motel tax and Dubuque's 7% city hotel-motel tax, on top of the room charge, plus any state sales tax that applies; the quote gives the full total. We found no added nightly fee; the quote confirms that, along with the rate for your exact dates.

Bluff colors and summer evenings
May to October suits Dubuque. The river is busy, the bluff parks are green and then turn color in fall, and the walk between downtown and the riverfront is an easy one. Late September and October bring the autumn color the bluffs are known for.
December to March is a harder fit. The river season is over, the bluff parks sit under snow, and the hillside streets can be slow going. Summer has its own catch: July is the priciest month at this hotel, so weeknights in May, June, September or October keep the figure closest to the one above.
A long day north along the river
From Florissant the road runs 339 miles, about 6 h 19 min without traffic or stops, heading mostly north to the Mississippi in northeast Iowa. That is a full day at the wheel, and a morning start brings you to the front desk not long after the 3:00 PM check-in.
